Thomas Stevens

Thomas Stevens began his viola studies at the age of nine living just outside of Philadelphia, PA.  His music studies took him to the Manhattan School of Music to study with Karen Ritcher and after that, independently with the late Joey Corpus.  Tom lived and free lanced in New York City and became Professor of Viola at Hofstra University.  He also played in the University’s ensemble in residence, the Hofstra String Quartet.

In 2005 Tom moved to Richmond, VA and has lived and performed in the Richmond area since then.  He teaches violin and viola at the University of Richmond and performs regularly with the Roanoke and Williamsburg Symphonies.  Tom plays with the Charlottesville Opera in the summers and is a regular sub and extra in the viola section with the Richmond Symphony Orchestra.

On the lighter side, Tom has been known to dabble in Irish Fiddle and compose tunes for violin or viola and guitar.  His accordion playing is coming along.Tom is thrilled to be entering his tenth year of playing with the Lyric String Quartet.
